Battery won't recharge in my 1993 Sierra Z71

Asked by Jan 20, 2014 at 03:32 PM about the 1993 GMC Sierra 1500 K1500 4WD Extended Cab LB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 93 Sierra and the battery won't recharge. Have replaced alternator.
Truck is running at 10 volts and if you turn on radio, heat, etc. it will kill the
battery very quickly. Any ideas what could be causing this?

Check all your fuses if they are good replace the alternator. I have had bad ones in the box new before.

Have had two alternators already in it and both tested good. All fuses have all been checked as well

If it is showing 10v it is not charging at all. If you are sure it is good the only thing it can be is a broken wire from the alternator to the battery. I have had 3 bad alternators out of the box on one vehicle the same day. Check your connector at the back of the alternator for bad connection/broken wire too.

We had two alternators that both tested good at auto zone and o'riellys. Is it possible for a wire to be bad but not visually noticible because the wire from alternator to battery looks fine.
