Where did you come up with that, 1990 mustang is still OBD 1 so there are only 2 digit codes.

PIP is a sensor in the old 5.0V8 distributor.

If that is what they are looking for you use the brass feeler gauge in your feeler gauge set and adjust it just like you would points, the brass is to keep the magnetic fields stable and not contaminate the other metals with a magnetic field.
