1991 Ford Ranger Truck won't crank

My Truck ran out of gas and i put gas in it and it still won't crank. So i sprayed
some starting fluid (ether) in it and it still won't crank which means the spark plugs
are sparking (won't fire). what would cause it not to fire anymore

check the crank sensor.
