Avery year I need yo get a new Battery. What could be happening?
The problems is that after about 1 year of use, the battery do not hold the charge
anymore. This is my tird battery in 4 years and I really have not clue what could be
Thanks in advance
have you had your alternator checked? or may be an electrical grounding issue
I haven't, I was just reading about that. I would love to do it myself. Do you have any suggestion on where to start? Should I just measure the Amperes and Voltage that is coming out or I need to pay attention to something else? Thanks
You can start by checking the voltage. Start the car up, pop the hood and measure the voltage , what is it, 14V? Do you drive a lot of short trips and never drive more than 10mins?
Ok, thanks.. Most of the times are short drives, between 10 and 20 mins
I drive around with a Tester connected. The voltage was around 11 Volts. Clearly the alternator is not working properly. Could be the belt or I just need to fix or a new alternator?
Battery should be 12.3 V with engine off, 13-14V with engine running. 11V means your battery is drained. Get a charger on it before starting again. Belts are probably fine, making noise? I'd say it's your alternator. You can remove it and have a local auto part store test it for you.
I'm pretty sure is not the battery, it is new (2 days). I guess, the battery is getting drained because the alternator is just not putting enough into the system. I just check the belt this morning, is looks OK. I'll take it to the shop, this problem is clearly above my skills. Thank you all for the help.
