96 dodge caravan turn key every thing works but won't start
van was running ground cable on the battery got disconnected quit running the dome lights blew and blew the fuel pump fuse now every time we put fuse in for fuel pump as soon as we put it in it blows now won't even try to start but every thing we turn works like wiper, heater ,radio
TrannyMan is right about removing any battery cable with the engine running, a customer of mine did that on his Crown Victoria and wound up costing him well over 1500 bucks to get all the electronics replaced that he fried. I'm not a Mopar Tech, just a retired shop owner. So this sounds like you may have got lucky and only shorted out the fuel pump, I would disconnect the plug at the fuel pump connector at the fuel tank and check too see if it still blows the fuse, if it doesn't then it is for sure a shorted fuel pump, if it still blows then it could have melted the fuel pump relay internally to a ground, remove the fuel pump relay and try again, if it still blows then it is time for a professional to get involved as the circuits are going to have to be thoroughly checked for overheated and shorted wiring above the fuel pump relay.
