When checking, you have to know what to check; e.g., spark plugs. Are they worn? Do they look metallic, charred, whitish? Are they dry or wet? Are they getting spark? Then there's fuel: Do you hear the fuel pump? How are the injectors? Is fuel reaching the rail? There's also the engine itself: How's the compression? Do you see liquid in the cylinders, and if so, what is it? The list goes on..... If you don't know how to diagnose starting problems, have a mechanic do it. You'll then have his analysis and you'll then know what to fix.
