What is going on with my car

Asked by Jun 12, 2015 at 01:36 PM about the 2002 Ford Taurus SE

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I was driving and I lost all accessories including speedometer, tachometer, radio, turn
signals and head lights. The engine had a rough ideal so I got to parking lot and shut off
the car. When I tried to start the car I only got clicking. With a jump I was able to get
the car started and all accessories worked fine. When we removed jumper cables all
accessories were lost and experienced the same rough ideal.
So bad alternator or battery right? Wrong. Both alternator and battery have tested fine.

What else could be causing this problem?

Test them again. Something is wrong with most likely the alternator, but recheck both

Its a bran new battery and I brought the alternator into NAPA and it checked out.

If you are sure the battery and alternator are good, check for a bad ground. This could cause the symptom you described.
