2002 Ford Focus Zx5 5 speed

Asked by Nov 22, 2016 at 01:51 AM about the 2002 Ford Focus ZX5

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I bought an '02 Zx5 with 62k and one year old
clutch for 850.
-Took it to a mechanic to put on a lift and the oil
pan (lower from what I can tell) is rusted in a
corner and dripping oil.
-As well as one more spot near the transmission.
The gear box was a little low on fluid so he filled it
but I noticed a Bolt snapped on the housing at the
bottom of the tranny to which the mechanic said
was probably better it was slightly loose if it was
leaking oil so it dripped down and not across the
- when the car drives there is a whirring (not metal
on metal) sound that gets louder and faster as the
car drives. Took it from CT to WI and if held up but
can't figure it out, all the tires and brakes are tight.
No play anywhere
-On top there is a faint odor ( FAAAAIIINNNT) of
antifreeze every once and again that area into the

So my synapse is new upper and lower oil pan and
seals. Remove and replace Bolt on tranny and
make sure it's still in good condition and check
heads for leak where the antifreeze goes into the
block? And something to do with the wheel

So my question is put 4k into a new car? Or replace
the engine and trans assembly/exhaust and drive
the zx5?
