Why is my car suddenly not shifting or accelerating correctly?

My Ford Five Hundred is shifting roughly when I put
it in gear, it is not accelerating, and the check and
mechanic light is on. This even occurred after I put
a new mass air flow sensor in, could it be the mass
air flow sensor harness connector or something
else?

Hard to say without scanning for the trouble codes. with the check engine light on and mechanic light, a code is stored in the cars system allowing you to diagnose the problem. Have an auto part store do it for free.
