Blend door actuator, the blend door or both. The plastic piece that connects the actuator to the blend door may be broken.

I've patched a couple of these with patience, a sore arm, a crick in my neck and epoxy. To fix it right, the dash has to come out. $1000 sounds like the shop didn't want to do the job.

Don't know about the 2006, but I was able to rig my 2003. There are videos on the net which illustrates how. It may work on yours. I wasn't spending a grand either. Even in So. La. where winter weather is labeled anything at 60 degrees or lower.

Must of what I read is the vacuum lines and there are many other parts that it could be . I have not tried all of the yet , but you can bet I will before I pay anybody anything . Found all information on you tube. I took my wifes pt cruiser to dealer , because all panel lights were out they whated over a 1000 dollars to fix it I took it home cleaned the battery posts and every thing works. Not that this has anything to do with the vents , its just sometimes the simple things should be tried first . I should tell you I am a cheap scape , so I do everything to not have to spend a couple hundred dollars I don't have

I definitely have the small broken piece that works the vents from defrost, vent or feet. Not sure what it's called to check on getting the part. . Does anyone know?

The job is estimated at $1000 because the dash and the heater/AC plenum has to come out of the truck to fix it properly. You may be able to jury-rig something to make it work but it won't last. Most likely, you need to replace the broken "mode" door.

We have paid Firestone to fix ours several times... still not working.... now they want another $500 to try to fix it again. They told us to take it to the dealer!!!

I'm going to call it the vent door right or wrong for my problem, the shaft that runs it was broke on the inside. I took the bezel, radio and small deflector out and fastened a stiff wire do the door and ran it out just above the controls, pull it out for defrost and in for vent. Spent more time thinking than doing it and costs whatever a screw and a piece of wire is.
