i changed the front struts but used the old coils on my 2003 Ford Explorer XLS now the front end sits lower

We're the struts the same length as what you took out? If the stoke is shorter on the strut then the ride height will be lower as well. Always match replacement parts with the ones you are removing, you never know they could be mislabeled.

Check the location of the lower spring perch compared to the ones you took out. If they are in the same position then something is missing. Pic is a general view
