I have an 02 Ford Explorer 4x4, 4dr 4.0, non flex fuel, not a Sport Trac. I ordered a motor today from LKQ online that is a 01 Merc Mountaineer engine...(same specs as my Explorer).... Was told by someone it would work, was told by someone else that it would not and was told by a third person that it "might work"...Am at a loss. Getting ready to drop $1K on this with a steep return/shipping fee...any advice on whether this will work or not?

Did you give this information to the LKQ person when you placed the order? The two vehicles are basically the same. Double check with the LKQ people. If you can, do it by email then you have evidence if they send you the wrong engine. If you haven't paid for it yet use a credit card.

1 out of 1 people think this is helpful.

I talked to 2 LKQ people, the lady who sold it said it will work but another salesman/yard tech said no, they will not fit. I had them return the money as I did pay by CC but getting through to CSR's at LKQ is horrible. At this point, I'm still looking.

Yeah, it's better to be safe than sorry. I had very good luck with an outfit called PICK AND PULL. They are a young national company. Try Googling them. It's worth a shot.
