Is my 2002 Ford Explorer possessed?

Asked by Aug 12, 2015 at 03:47 PM about the 2002 Ford Explorer Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

While driving down the road doing about 55-60 mph, my speedometer went to 120 then back to zero then to 55 then nothing. All the the dashboard lights would flash off and on, the radio shuts off, the windows will not works nor will the door locks.
I am afraid to drive it due to never knowing when it is going to happen, not knowing how fast / slow I am going and just plain not knowing what is wrong. I swear my car is possessed.

That sounds like you have an electrical gremlin, as usual the first thing to check is the vehicles grounds, and there are quite a few, from the main harness grounds to chassis grounds to EEC system grounds etc. Then you can start on power supplies, you won't believe the troubles a low voltage or corroded grounds can cause. It would be a good idea to get a shop manual with a good wiring diagram and component locator. If you don't want to buy one your local library might have one in the reference section that you can photocopy the sections you want.
