2002 explorer giving me problems

Asked by Dec 20, 2015 at 12:05 AM about the 2002 Ford Explorer Eddie Bauer 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Our explorer just started acting up a couple
months ago. It started shutting off when pulling
out of the driveway and parking spaces. Put it in
neutral and start it up again and go. Well when I
parked it a couple nights ago my rpms went up
over 1500 like I was touching the gas, put it in
reverse then back in park and she was fine. Heat
went out a couple weeks ago. Tonight I went about
a mile to my mother's didn't warm up the whole
way there, stayed for an hour and a half then
decided to come home.... but she wouldn't start,
for twenty minutes I tried and cussed her the whole
time. When it did start it died and wouldn't start
again. Tried one more time and started right up but
acted like it was gonna die again, all lights and
everything worked but it was like loss of power cuz
lights went dim and came back to bright. Help. Idk
what's wrong with her.

Could be a bunch of stuff, the way to start is to start checking. Could be a fuel pump, a filthy throttle body, need for a tune-up, or electronic. Not having someone to check various areas for you will require it be brought to a shop for diagnosis.
