My temperature gauge skyrocketed to the H "HOT" Do I need coolant maybe?

You might be low on coolant which is the first thing to check. Wait until the engine cools before checking.

Would check the level in any case. Your thermostat might not be opening if you don't have any leaks. If you do have leaks I'd check for pulley wobble at the water pump, cracked or loose hoses, and do a pressure test. Pressure testers can usually be rented. Other ideas are clogged radiator or heater core. Good Luck!

The biggie you don't want... blown head gasket. Check oil and see if it is a "Milky" color.
