The 2-4 band is apparently gone in my 06 escape. Will continuing to drive it further damage the transmission? It runs smooth and quiet in third gear and I can see no debris in fluid.

Eventually your gonna need a rebuild anyway. If your problem can not be fixed by replacing a solenoid or something, and you need it for short distances until you get the time for it to be rebuilt, you won't wreck anything that is used in the trany for rebuilding.
