How do I get my Escape into 4wd?

Asked by Jan 02, 2014 at 05:46 PM about the 2006 Ford Escape XLT 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I have a 2006 Escape that says 4wd on the dash yet has no switch to put it into 4wd and does not kick in automatically. Any ideas?

Not an idea but a fact. Your Escape will activate the AWD when the ABS system detects wheel slippage, so it all automatic with no driver input. Your Escape is basically a FWD vehicle till the system is activated and puts power to the rear wheel or wheels.
