My 06 escape does not engage the rear wheels it just in front wheel drive does anyone know what my problem is

sounds like a bad switch or it could be that maybe a connection came loose

What do you mean by engage? They should spin freely via the differential and the driveshaft when your normal driving down the road. Is your Escape AWD? They came in FWD and AWD models. The rear wheels only are used as drive wheels when the computer detect wheel slippage via the ABS system.
