Is the motor in the 2003 Mercury Marauder the same as what is in the 2004 Crown Victoria LX Sport (P74)? Do these cars have the same engine as the Mustang? And same horsepower?

The engine in the Marauder is a 4.6 DOHC with 302 HP, the engine in the Crown Vic is a SOHC version with about 70 HP less. The Marauder engine is very similar to the Mustang Mach 1 and the Lincoln Aviators of the same years (2003 and 2004). Some external parts are unique to the Marauder.

Thank you. But just to be clear, in your answer when you refer to the Crown Victoria, are you referring to the regular Crown Victoria or those with the P74 option? I was told that the Marauder and the P74 both had the same motor? Is that incorrect?

They do not have the same engine. The DOHC 4.6 was never used in the Crown Vic. http://www.idmsvcs.com/liquid/p7x.html

What you were told is totally 100% incorrect. I am a Marauder enthusiast and own a 2004 model and am well versed in the information regarding these vehicles.

So, just to summarize, is it correct to say that the regular Crown Victoria has less horsepower than the Sport LX (P74), which in turn has less horsepower than the Marauder? http://wwwb.autotrader.ca/a/Ford/Crown+Victoria/MONTR%c3%89AL/Quebec/19_10239130_/ The link above is to a car I am interested in buying. It has dual exhaust, and an interior almost identical to a Marauder but no gauges. The owner has the original wheels. Any help that you can give me is greatly appreciated, It was an American car imported into Canada.

I think that would be correct to say. If you like the car and it is in great condition, buy it.

In your travels, have you heard of or seen this type of Crown Victoria? Thanks again,

Yes, it is a somewhat limited edition that is very desirable to some individuals. It is not a collector car by any standards as of yet. A low mileage well maintained one will last many years with proper maintenance.

Thanks again. Unless I am missing something when reading the specification link you sent me in an earlier answer, do you happen to know what the horsepower is for that car? I know, a lot of questions, but you have been invaluable!

224 HP single exhaust 239 HP dual exhaust according to the information at the link. From other things I have read over the years on these cars I think those HP numbers appear to be accurate.

2004 marauders have dohc and 302h, all vics have sohc, and on 04 marauders you need to keep correct tires on it unless u want to turn ur traction off, requires correct tire size

On 2004 Marauders the tire size difference between from and rear needs to be maintained or issues with traction control will show up. This has nothing to do with the 2004 Crown Vic LX that the OP is referring to.

Guru9SL4K, I own a 2003 Crown Victoria LX Sport; as Bob explained, it has the SOHC 4.6 engine with 239 HP. (I have owned this car for 11 years and at the moment, I have no interest in buying another car.)

The Crown Victoria LX sport started as a 2001 mid year option after many dealerships in California requested a package to appeal to younger drivers and those wanting a sportier package so it included identical suspension,Longer sway bar ,rear air shocks and dual exhaust ,front seats ,floor shifter and many more of Crown Victoria LX Sport characteristics were used on the later to come Mercury Marauder that’s why the Marauder got the LX sport full suspension package but the Marauder has a DOHC engine 302HP and the LX sport has a SOHC at 239HP the lX Sport has 3.27 rear end and the Later Marauder got the 3.55 rear end 0-60 times in the Marauder are 1.6 seconds faster to 0-60 (stock) put and LX sport and marauder side by side and they look almost identical interestingly enough they used the LX sport interior in the Marauders (changed color options) the Marauder was available in I believe 3 colors silver, burgundy ,black (don’t know exact paint names) and the LX sport came in 3 Monochromatic colors Silver frost ,Deep wedge wood Blue, and Black clear coat all trim matched the cars paint which Marauder seemed to follow suit on also. So in my eyes the Marauder is a Crown Victoria LXSport with a different front bumper, rear bumper, DOHC engine(biggest difference), gauges above floor shifter, 3.55 rear end and 18 inch wheels instead of 17 on the LX Sport model. (These are all factual based conclusions feel free to research correct me if I’m wrong but only come with some supporting info as I’ve done extensive research on this and have yet to find any other differences and was shocked the suspension was the same,I own a 2001 HPP Crown Victoria Sport in Monochromatic silver frost (the rare mid year option package floor shifter) Marauders older slower cousin.
