Asked by Nov 26, 2016 at 01:42 PM about the 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer EXT LT 4WD SUV

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

My Chevy has had it's ABS light on for a full day and it won't shut off. No other light is on. What could be the issue?

Top brake fluid off. First

I would agree to check fluid first, and then you may need a shop to scan system to evaluate. Often times it may be as simple as a wheel speed sensor, which is a "normal" repair these days on most vehicles.

If the light comes on and stays on when you start the engine it's going to be a wheel speed sensor. If the light comes on when you start the engine, goes out, then comes back on when you start moving it's going to be the pump and modulator assembly. The system checks the sensors immediately at start up. But doesn't check the pump and modulator assembly until the vehicle starts moving. That's how you can tell the difference. HTH. -Jim

Regular OBD2 code checkers don't scan for ABS codes but you can buy code checkers that will but they run around $200.
