Electrical problems

Hi I recently bought a a 1993 ford probe se that has
some electrical problems. I honestly don't know much
stuff about cars so I'll try to explain it the best way I
can.

So the guy I bought it from said that one day he went
to put gas in the car and when he went to turn it on it
wouldn't turn on, then the next day it did. And
apparently it's been doing the same thing for a while.
A few parts were replaced trying to fix it, a new starter,
wiring harness, and a new fuel pump. He also said
that the car would run good but when the cooling fans
kicked in it would run bad. Now the engine is running
well but when the fans kick in it doesn't and it ain't
overheating.  He did recently get the transmission
rebuilt and he said that that's where the problem
occurred. I'll have more info if you ask.

Check the charging voltage and test the battery.

Most likely the original problem is a stuck open purge valve. The purge valve is part of the EVAP system which pulls gasoline fumes from the gas tank and burns them in the engine. If the purge valve is stuck open gasoline can be forced into the engine during refueling. This will cause the engine to be flooded with gasoline. It may be hard to start immediately after refueling or it may not start at all until the gasoline evaporates, like the next day for example. This can also cause the engine to run poorly because of an overly rich air to fuel mixture (too much fuel). Hope that helps! Jim
