i bought a new 2006 chevy silverado 4x4 ls model 2500 hd extended cab with a 5.3 motor. has been in garage since it was new and only has 17,215 original miles on it .it is strictly a highway trucks used for trips only.what is the avg. gas mileage

That would depend on you and the type of driving you do. My guess is 15 to 18 mpg unloaded.
Keep up with the maintenance and you'll get another 200,000 out of her. But if you drive it hard expect some less.

Depends on hard you drive, up hills, towing should be 15 to 18...
Maybe brand new 15-18, but as the motor gets older and slop in the drive train develops even the 5.3 will drop to 10-12 over time.
