Today when I went to shift my 1993 bronco from park to drive my shifter next to my steering wheel made a crack sound then I couldn't move it out of park. It is completely limp.
So you either broke the shift collar, common for a Ford, or the lug sheared off of the shift tube, not as common but happens, you need to remove the steering wheel and turn signal switch assembly to verify. Be careful moving things around during this repair as you could shear off the little pawl down by the neutral switch, and they are a bear to replace.
