I drive a 03 Chevy Silverado with an 8.1 and I recently discovered a noise coming from the right side of the motor, it's not a ticking it's more of a knocking noise, what could it be?
It seems like the 8.1 has a piston slap as well as lifter problems, you can research it online, there is quite a bit of information on this.
I did some research and there is so many possibilities, from the piston slap to the camshaft being bad, but my truck runs like a champ with 168000 miles, should I worry about or should I ignore it
If you keep it long enough eventually you will have to do something, I had 6.0 that had piston slap in it, it still had piston slap in it when I sold it, and the guy that bought it said it had piston slap when he sold it. So as long as it doesn't get any worse just drive it but make sure you use a good engine oil.
Aight Thankyou! And valvoline with a quart of Lucas is what I use!
Lucas is what I use in my rigs, sounds like you are doing it right. Good Luck and have many of miles of driving.
