Oil pressure

Asked by Tim Jan 16, 2017 at 08:03 AM about the 2006 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS 4WD

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I had my lifters and cam shaft replaced 6
months ago. 3 months later the oil pump
went out. I put a new one in but now my oil
pressure at hot idle is between 10 and 15
psi at 500 rpm. At running speed 35 to
40psi at 1500 to 2000 rpm.  Truck runs
good but I am concerned. Everything I
have read including a GM spec say oil
pressure should be at 6psi per 1000 rpm.
I'm wondering if the oil sending unit is
going bad or is there something more
sinister going on?  Truck has 170000 mile
on it.
Just trying to figure out what to do . Any
help would greatly be appreciated.

Thanks

Check the oil pressure with a mechanical gauge to see for sure what is going on.

That'll be the first step to confirm, if it is low, u have internal engine wear, like rod or crankshaft bearings or camshaft

Yep, if this is the 5.3L should have had a high volume oil pump installed.
