Truck turns off like if I'm out of gas
I have a 2005 single cab Silverado. Truck would
shut off like if I didn't have have any gas so I
changed fuel pump. Worked fine for a few hours
and the truck is still dying on me I go under the
hood and switch the fuel pump relay and turns right
back up but after awhile it shuts off again while I'm
driving. The really gets really hot also. What could
be the the problem?
I'm not thinking electrical since you replaced the fuel pump because the the problem usually is at the connector being corroded. It may still be a fuel issue. Should do a fuel bleed down test by hooking a fuel pressure gauge up to the Schrader valve, cycle the key a few times to build up pressure on the gauge, then with the key off, watch the gauge to see if it looses pressure. It should not drop more than 5 lbs in 3 minutes. If it does then the injectors, spider lines, and regulator would have to be replaced as a hole unit.
