1994 chevy pickup airconditioning wont take freon
I have a 1994 chevy pickup and the ac is not working I went to put freon and
leak stop and it will not take any of it. Can you tell me what it might be.
If the AC compressor isn't engaged and pumping when the engine is running then it won't accept a charge unless the system has been vacuumed. Its old enough to have many issues.
Take a very small screwdriver and try to depress the service port valve stem gently. It's exactly like the valve stem on your tire. You should hear a hiss when you depress the valve stem. If so it's open and then you can try again with the refrigerant. But it is possible that a previous owner put a sealant in the system and the valve is sealed shut. You should also be ok with the R134a refrigerant. I believe at GM 1994 and newer is R134a. HTH. -Jim
