Please HELP!! 99 Chevy 1500 w/ Vortex V8 stalled and won't crank!?!

Asked by Dean Nov 24, 2021 at 03:06 PM about the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 LS RWD

Question type: General

I have a 99 Chevy 1500 with the Vortec V8 in it and I
had the engine running while I was hosing the engine
off after spraying engine cleaner all over it, while I was
spraying the engine with the water hose the engine
died and wouldn't restart and now days later the
engine still won't start. Has anybody ever had this
crazy problem or might know what getting sprayed
with the water hose could have damaged to cause
this problem. This is my parents only transportation
whom both work so any help or suggestions are
highly appreciated at this point. Thanks guys!

Oh boy! Water and electricity don't mix! The first thing to do is check the fuses in the underhood fuse box. Replace any that are blown. Inspect the spark plug wires and remove the distributor cap and check for wetness. Especially under the distributor cap. Some WD40 under the distributor cap will help dry it out. Make sure everything is dry then see if it'll start. It may run poorly for a while but the heat from the engine will finish drying everything out. For future reference always cover the distributor cap and alternator when washing the engine and never use the jet spray setting on your hose! Make sure you dry the spark plug wires in the future too!! Hope that helps! Jim

I agree. further/deeper check and diagnostic will have to be done at alternator, Ignition Coil pack/On-spark-Ignition coil/distributor, AirCleaner, Battery. always cover those engine parts/components with water proof plastic bags to prevent water from getting into them. DO NOT spry the hose directly at these areas. thanks
