Oil pressure and ticking sound 99 5.3 silverado

Asked by Mar 23, 2015 at 07:20 AM about the 1999 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 3 Dr LS 4WD Extended Cab SB

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

I notice that my oil pressure gauge is
reading a little low. It usually sits at half,
and now its around the 1/4 mark. Also, I
started hearing a ticking noise from the
motor (I thought it may be a cracked
exhaust manifold/donut gasket) but after
researching, these two happen together
commonly and it may be lifter tap? Any help
is appreciated

How is the oil level? Using the correct weight? Might be your oil pump starting to fail, oil pressure sounds low.
