transmission acts like it's in neutral
just had tranny rebuilt and I installed it. put fluid in it and let truck warm up. I went through the gears and nothing. idle will change like normal when putting in gear. thought maybe transfer case was stuck in neutral , but when in park it won't roll. any suggestions ?
Fluid level is fine and not low? Who rebuilt the trans? Did you contact them?
I put in 6 quarts and the level is the same after truck warmed up. its like the pump has air in it or something and not circulating
Did you fill the torque convertor with trans fluid before install? A new automatic transmission should take close to 10-12 total quarts.
You add the fluid with truck idling in park.
yes. I was told to start with 6 quarts and go through the gears and when the pump starts then add the rest of fluid. with 6 quarts in it, it is showing overfilled. I think the pump is captivating and there is to much air pressure and not pulling in the fluid. I'm going to drain a little fluid out tomorrow till it gets to the full mark and try again.
Let the trans cool down and try again till you get all the air out of the trans. You might have to do this multiple times.
was I suppose to have the truck idling before I ever put any fluid in it ? I put the 6 quarts in first before ever starting the truck.
Yes, see above. Engine on when you fill, so the pump circulates the fluid into the torque convertor and rest of transmission. Some recommend filling the Torque convertor with a qt. of fluid before install to help lube and prime it when adding the fluid to the transmission.
So I would drain most of the fluid like you said you were going to do and start over.
