Very loose steering condition.

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The steering in my 2003 Monte SS is way to loose while driving. This just started recently with no warning.  There is no "road feel" and little "return ability" on turns. It`s not making any noises and the fluid level is good.  The car has 96,000 miles on it.  I`m thinking maybe the Steering Rack needs to be replaced, unfortunately. Could it be anything else like maybe a steering sensor?

Steering rag joint can be worn and needs repair. Best to have it looked at by your local garage ASAP if your not handy working under the car.

Tom, the Rag Joint looks good. There is no play in the steering just no drag when turning the wheel left or right. Extremely easy to turn the steering wheel. It feels like the steering is in "full power assist" all the time which leads me to think that maybe there`s a bad valve in the rack or maybe a bad steering sensor. No trouble codes present but I`m not sure if there would even be a code for a steering sensor.
