Did you bleed out the air? Do this with the reservoir cap off and, with the engine running, slowly turn the steering wheel stop to stop several times. There should be no air bubbles or foam in the reservoir. It's not necessary to rev the engine. Just let it idle. Some fluid may spill out but that's ok. Do NOT put automatic transmission fluid in there either!! This will damage the power steering components!! Once it's bled your power steering should be restored. If not, something else is going on. You can check the fluid level in a day or two and top it off if needed. HTH. -Jim

If no leaks and the belt is one, may just need system bleed of air which will have to follow step in a repair book, some models you rotate the steering wheel with cap off pump reservoir a few times until it comes back.
