advise on purchasing a 2006 Toyota Avalon

Asked by Wendy Sep 20, 2021 at 11:40 PM about the 2006 Toyota Avalon Limited

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

i am in the works of purchasing a 2006 Toyota Avalon with 97533 miles on it.
I have never purchased a used vehicle and I am doing this for my daughter
to have a car for school. Her commute will be about 40 miles round trip. I
was wondering if anyone can tell me anything I should know about that year
make and model?  The car fax shows its only had 2 owners. seems like the
the car has had tires put on it quite often. Please help concerned momma
with not much experience. Thank you in advanced

Generally speaking Toyota is a very good vehicle that will last a long time. Good job on looking at the Carfax! Doing your homework will help you make a wise decision about purchasing a vehicle! The frequent tire replacement could mean it needs an alignment (not bad) or a suspension component replaced (not bad either). When you go to look and test drive the vehicle inspect the tires for uneven wear. During the test drive find a piece of flat smooth road and take your hands off the steering wheel at about 40 to 50 MPH. The vehicle should continue to drive straight even with your hands off the steering wheel for a bit. If it wants to immediately drift to one side or tries to go careening off the road something is wrong. A slight drift is an alignment problem. A strong pull is a worn suspension component. Either way further investigation is needed. You can also visit the website carcomplaints.com and see what others are saying about the vehicle you're looking at. Plus recall information is there as well as crash tests results on most vehicles are available for you to look at. Hope that helps! Jim

Toyota, good choice but have a mechanic check it first. The good news on your engine is that it has a timing chain instead of a belt.
