engine temperature for 1988 Corvette
Need to know what the normal ranges are for my engine temperature before it overheats and in the danger zone so that I can watch it. When sitting at a stop sign or light I know it runs higher before the fan kicks on.. Can someone please tell me what the NORMAL ranges should be? Is going up to 240 okay and if not do I need to change out my thermostat? I changed it out 4 years ago.. Thanks.
195-200 normal operating temp. start hitting 210 and over shut her down...
I got new radiator 5 years ago........ any suggestions on why it's running 220 while sitting idling? Just got a major tune-up and everything....... Thanks.
Hi Cheri, usually when you heat up at idle or slow speeds it's going to be an airflow problem. Check the fan clutch for proper operation. Check the radiator and A/C condenser (in front of the radiator) for blockage. True story, my Nephew is a mechanic and last fall he had a car come in for an overheating problem. He inspected the front of the radiator and found a dead cat in front of the radiator! It was blocking the airflow through the radiator. Hopefully there's no dead critters there. But, unfortunately, it can happen! HTH. -Jim
