How do you install the rings on tire rims on a 72 vette?
I have a 1972 corvette, with standard hubcaps. I purchased rings for the hubcaps but don't know how to install them. I'm looking for help.
Hello Margie: I also own a 1972 Corvette with the factory Ralley Wheels. Installing the rings are simple. On the back of your rings you should have tabs that will match with your lip on the wheels themselves. Line up these tabs to your wheel and by using a rubber hammer lightly tap the rings into place to secure them on the wheel lip itself. They should snap securely into place. You can use a hubcap hammer that most garages use too. This same tool will aid you in the removing of your trim rings later, the opposite side of the rubber hubcap hammer uses leverage on the tire and a flat screwdriver tipped tool on the opposite end on your hubcap removing tool. Sounds more difficult than it really is. If you still need more help, go to a local garage that sells tires and ask to see a hubcap removing tool. Should have a rubber side on one side and a screwdriver tipp on the opposite side. They may even show you how this tool works. Good Luck.....Ron
Make sure to line up the gap on the ring with the valve stem. Sometimes if the wheels are balanced with multiple weights on the outside of the rim, they can prevent the ring from going on properly.
