what was the original name for the 1980's Toyota Van

I've searched everywhere for the original name of this van. one things for sure is that it is NOT a Previa because Previa came after the Van/ is an updated version of the Van. what is the original name of this monster?

is that the original name for the American/ Canadian one? I thought the Hiace was the Japanese name for it. all I know is that someone told me the name sounded completely ridiculous.
