i have a 1996 jeep grand Cherokee Laredo and my transmission went in it. i was wondering if a dodge durango v8 transmission would fit in it

Offhand I would say no, this is not a direct swap. You would need to at least have a straight 6 flywheel and bellhousing, and deal with all the mating issues, the difference in length of the trannys, etc.
