Have a 87 Chevy truck 454 changed fule filter and manual fule pump and can't get it started without putting fule in carburetor but it won't stay running what else can I check

Probably stuck float. It's happened to me twice in my lifetime, once in my '68 VW bug and in my '87 motorhome on the P30 chassis. Both times I took the wood handle end of a hammer and put it against the carb bowl and tapped it maybe a dozen times. Try it a few times

Good luck. The last time with the quadrajet I had to bang it quite a few times.
