Are GM cars with door mounted seatbelts safe?

It would seem that if the door popped open
in an accident, the driver would no longer
be wearing a seatbelt and would be in
danger of ejection.

Personally I think that design is safer. If the buckle jams you still have a chance to get out. But that's just me. HTH. -Jim
