just bought a 71 c10 and the truck wont go into park but all other gears work any ideas what this could be?

Your transmission and or motor mounts are made from rubber and need to be changed to Neoprene now... something that will not crack apart and change your transmission selections and kickdown times~

no it will especially change if it is a manually linked control...3mm in one direction 5mm in the other direction...where is "home" position...once it goes crumbly is anyone's guess~ if it's a manual will be jutting right out of the case and you would not notice as much except on acceleration.~

first thing to check is the linkage adjustment. the arm that goes into the trans has a slot in it and the shift linkage is held to the arm by a nut and washer. on level ground, chock the wheels, remove the nut and linkage,make sure the arm moves all the way from low to park, if it does put the arm in park position, shifter in park, and reattach
