Question type: Car Customization

I have a 79' Chevy shortbox. with a three on the tree.
Linkage gets Jammed often.
I wanna switch the tranny to a T-5 S-10 Tranny.
Bell Housing is the same is what I have heard.

Would get way better mileage. But Is it Possilbe

any help or anything would be nice. my truck a 2wd 1/2 ton with a 12 botl rear.

I don't know that this is possible. Maybe better to try to cut out and put a floor shifter in.
