Starts won’t start

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Have a 4.3 2000 jimmy. Went on a 500 mile trip.
Seems to run ok,maybe a bit rough stopped at
lights but here’s the real problem. I pull in got fuel
(engine warm). Go to start and it won’t, no clicking,
dash lights all on stereo works. Battery gauge goes
half way in between 9 and 14 when the ignition is
on and it won’t start. Have dash and interior lights
and stereo. Tried turning ignition to start 5 or 6
times. It’s an automatic so tried putting it in and out
of park but same results. Went to call a tow truck
but tried it one more time and it fired up. Gauge
goes th center (14) and doesn’t fluctuate. Drove it
150 miles the rest of the way home, scared to turn it
off till I got there! When I got home turned off
ignition and when to start it and it did, no problem.
It did that scenario 3 times on the trip. First 2 times
turned the ignition and after 2 times or so it started.
The last time(3rd time) thought I was stranded.
Also not sure if related ? After fueling up when it
does start right away it act like it’s flooded and
takes a moment or two ,to get up rpm or a couple
times starting again cause it may not start
immediately. That’s without any battery ,ignition
,starting issue. Both problems when they happen
only happen when vehicle is warm. I have an optima
hell battery it’s getting on 6 yrs. or so old. Help☹️

Thankyou Tom. I will buy a new battery and try? I use the vehicle a lot as I work out of town and have to have it work right. Not afraid to get dirty or spend a little cash on it. I just seems to happen out of the blue. Was thinking of taking it to GM dealer? Their shop prices kinda stare me a bit.

Check the connection at the battery terminals and clean them.Try this first, its cheaper than a battery
