Emergency brake light stays ob

I have 1996 Toyota Corolla wagon
with a pull handle parking brake . The
light won't go out, but on testing on a
hill the emergency brake isn't
working at all. Help?

I would take it to a mechanic . the light not going out may just be a faulty switch but the emergency brakes not working is concerning and the 2 issues may be related

Thank you. One mechanic told me it was just a faulty switch and not to worry. A diy friend said I should ck brake fluid and see if it's dirty. ( As a 70 yr old woman with an ancient car and limited income I look for cheap and easy answers with !
