Question type: Maintenance & Repair

The front tank doesn't work even when
tank is full. Front gauge shows empty. Rear
tank works but for only about 3 mi. Then
it'll just coast. Coast to the curve turn key
off then on and it'll work fine for again
another about 3 mi. And the cycle starts
again. Ford dealer checked truck for $125
and said I need fuel pump and sender for a
cost of $2K! Was planning to give to
grandson for college. I hoping it's the port
tank selector. Want do you think?

Well I think the dealer is right on what is wrong, but wrong with the price they want to charge you. The parts looking them up are not that expensive. I would go to an independent garage for repair, and make sure the fuel filter or filters are changed out along with new socks, strainers on the end of the fuel pump.
