Question type: Shopping & Pricing

How much should I pay for a 2002 Grand Prix that
has 200,000 miles on it. It runs good it does have a
little hole in the muffler.

That mileage on a GM low-quality product, not worth much more than 800-1500, depending on where you live, it's a basic "beater with a heater." Engine or trans could go at any moment without notice.

If it's a GT model with the 3.8 the intake manifold gaskets should have been done awhile ago. Same goes for the supercharged GTP model. Pay attention to the automatic transmission during the test drive. Make sure it shifts into all the gears and has torque converter clutch lock in. Cruising at 50 MPH the tach should be around 1500 RPMs. If it's higher it's lost overdrive and torque converter clutch lock in. Common with these cars. It's about a $1500 repair. Also look for a sweeping temperature gauge on the test drive. This indicates a cooling system problem which may or may not be an easy fix. To answer your question, if the car is in really nice shape, a two door, and a clean Carfax $1500 tops. HTH. -Jim
