i live in south carolina, if i buy a car in another state , which state do you pay taxes in? one or both? how does that work?

if i want to buy a car out of my own state how does that work? which state do i
have to pay or both?

In Illinois you pay taxes when you license and title the car at the DMV. We usually purchase automobiles in Indiana, and just pay the tax in Illinois. I believe that is true in all states pay where you register the auto.
