FORD ESCAPE XLT 4WD

Starts and runs fine and shifts smoothly.
When putting it into gear it wants to get up
and go with a LOUD WHINNING noise
coming from the front driver side. Goes
away in park and neutral and goes away
when rpms reach 2.5 but can still hear it
when it shifts. PLEASE HELP!!!!

This could be the front pump in the tranny sucking air due to a restricted filter, or the front pump bearing is worn just enough it is contacting the pumps housing slightly, if it is just a filter a tranny service should fix the problem, but if it is a pump bearing then the trans will have to be pulled and the pump assembly replaced.
