four wheel drive

We purchased 2005 liberty renegade in Feb.  Two
weeks ago, daughter got stuck in mud.  Wasnt sure
how to use 4x4. She just pulled it up.  They got
out of mud.  She released 4x4. But on dash light,
reading part-time has stayed on. ?

Possible the linkage is not allowing the shifter to push the xfer case into correct selection
