Battery light and excessive idle

Asked by Aug 22, 2016 at 09:05 PM

Question type: Maintenance & Repair

2002 Taurus. 3.0 24v. Upon startup(left
grocery store), battery light stayed on.
Engine idled at 2000 rpm. Put in gear to
get to garage, it started to lose power.
Pulled over and shut car off. After a few
minutes, I restarted and car was fine.
Possible alternator/battery? Or idle air
valve. No check engine light

Battery light means a charging issue. Test the alternator to see if it under or over charging.

Battery connections must be absolutely corrosion free and tight. Ground and starter connections need to be clean and tight as well. Have the ECU scanned for codes at a local auto parts store. This service is usually free. Do as stated above and have alternator and battery tested.
