Question type: Maintenance & Repair

Was driving went into overdrive to pass after pass
when it swiched back down and made a clunk
noise and then stalled and then was not able to be
restarted. Im thinking the starter because you
cannot hear the solenoid  trying to engage but i
didnt think a starter going bad would stall out a
vehicle... any advice?
